“A brilliantly twisty read that completely fooled me”

The Divorce by Freida McFadden was my second step into the world of psychological thrillers, and it surprised me with how much I enjoyed it.

To begin with, I found Naomi quite frustrating. Some of her decisions made me question whether she really understood what she was getting herself into. But as the story developed and the twists began to unfold, I started to realise there was much more to her than I had initially thought. And Jeremy? Let’s just say he wasn’t quite the person I thought he was!

One of my favourite things about this book was the way everything gradually started to tie together. As I discovered more, earlier details began to make sense, but there was still that feeling of, What on earth is going to happen next? That is exactly what I want from a thriller. The story completely fooled me at the beginning about who the bad guy was and where it was heading, which made the reveals all the more enjoyable.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to make of Veronica at first, either. I had my suspicions about her, but the story kept making me question my assumptions. One thing I really enjoyed was how the characters and their connections became clearer as the book progressed.

A gripping psychological thriller

The suspense was brilliant, and I found the writing style very easy to get into. I sometimes struggle to connect with certain authors, but that wasn’t the case here. I was so absorbed in the story that I just wanted to keep reading.

There are some dark and disturbing elements, and I did wonder how far the book would go on the gruesome side of things. Thankfully, I didn’t find it horrific, but there were certainly moments that made me think, Oh my goodness! It’s a thriller that manages to be unsettling without relying entirely on graphic detail.

Overall, The Divorce was a fantastic read and a brilliant introduction to psychological thrillers for me. I loved being misled, piecing things together and discovering how the story connected. It’s definitely made me want to read more from Freida McFadden.
