It explores the chaos and consequences an ordinary family faces when sudden wealth disrupts their lives.
At the center is Alice, a strong woman balancing her roles as a wife, mother, and independent thinker. But when her husband Freddie wins the lottery, he wants to change everything. Alice fights to keep the family together, especially for their children, Poppy and Ryan, who get caught in the middle.
The story builds the bond between Alice and her daughter with tenderness. It examines how families react when their core beliefs clash. It also questions how honest couples really are — and how silence can maintain peace at a cost.
The book includes humour, emotional depth, and a few surprising twists. Still, some parts feel drawn out. The Spanish translations didn’t add much for me, and Alice’s repeated comments about Freddie’s politics grew tiresome.
Despite that, the characters feel genuine and memorable. The story leaves you with a clear message — be careful what you wish for — and a bittersweet tone that lingers after the final page.
This novel offers a thoughtful, character-driven experience. It’s a great pick for readers who enjoy stories about family, identity, and emotional growth.
